Intraoral Camera

Intraoral Camera

In some dental cases, simple X-rays and handheld mirrors just are not enough. At Hale Family Dental, we use an intra oral camera to take your care to the next level.

What is an intraoral camera?

An intra oral camera is a tiny, powerful tool for dentists. It looks like a large pen, with a small digital camera on the end. It is small enough to fit inside a patient’s mouth, so your dentist and even you can see exactly what is going on in your mouth. As your dentist uses the camera to look at your teeth, a live feed video is displayed to a computer screen.

What are the benefits?

Many dental problems cannot be identified by the naked eye or X-rays alone. With an intra oral camera, your dentist can clearly see every corner and crevice, and so can you! This technology can reveal potential cracks in a cavity filling or expose areas which are neglected when brushing or flossing. It can also be used to accurately diagnose conditions in the early stages when they are easier to treat, like periodontitis or a cavity.

Patient education

Intra oral cameras allow you to see what your dentist is seeing and learn better oral care habits. Rather than only explaining the concern, your dentist can show you, whether it’s gingivitis or an area that needs to be brushed better. You can see the real condition of your teeth up close and learn from your dentist how to maintain a healthy mouth.

Documenting your teeth

With an intra oral camera, your dentist can capture high- resolution photos of your teeth. Each image is saved to your permanent record of treatments; they can be sent to other specialists, insurance providers, printed for you, or used as before and after treatment photos.
