Orthodontics

Braces and other orthodontic devices are not just for teens. Hale Family Dental offers orthodontic treatment for patients of all ages!

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics refers to the dental specialty of correcting the alignment of one’s bite. A misaligned bite – also known as malocclusion – can occur in several different forms:

  • Unevenly spaced teeth

  • Crowded teeth

  • Teeth that are too far apart

  • Underbite

  • Overbite

  • Crossbite

  • Misaligned jaw

Orthodontic treatments can remedy all these problems by correcting the alignment of the teeth. From start to finish, proper orthodontic treatment can last anywhere from one to three years, depending on corrections that need to be made. After treatment is finished, removable or permanent retainers are used to make sure the teeth stay in place and do not continue to shift.

Am I a candidate for orthodontics?

The most common orthodontic patients are generally kids and teenagers because their developing jawbones respond quickly to orthodontia. Correcting misaligned teeth at a young age also helps kids take care of their teeth and prevents expensive dental conditions in the future.

Many adults are also eligible to receive treatment. Some are adults who have never had orthodontic treatment, and some received treatment at a younger age and seek additional treatment if their teeth continued to shift.

Orthodontic options

Our patients have several options for correcting misaligned teeth. Two common choices are clear plastic aligners and traditional metal braces. Clear plastic aligners are an ideal option for adults with minor misalignments that require a shorter treatment duration, while traditional metal braces are optimal for teens and children who commonly require longer treatment for severe misalignments.

Benefits

Some of the greatest benefits of orthodontics include:

  • Promotes oral health because straight teeth are easier to clean

  • Improves smile and self-esteem

  • Prevents gum disease

  • Prevents the need for other expensive, painful procedures

Feel free to ask our staff at Hale Family Dental if you would be a good candidate for orthodontic treatment. We are happy to answer any questions you have!
